I designed Workflows as a flexible, connected system that served both field and office teams—removing inefficiencies, reducing risks, and ensuring tasks could be configured, tracked, and automated end-to-end.

Defined user assignment per task type and other filtering mechanisms, with in-app and email communications prompting users to take action.

Integration with Validere features and auto-complete

Connected workflows directly to core platform tools like asset management, emissions reporting, report creation, and data collection forms, eliminating manual transfers and ensuring a single source of truth and auto-completing tasks when done outside the workflow.

Built a workflow editor that allowed teams to define steps, assign roles, and adapt processes to match operational structures without engineering support.

We initially thought analysts and managers would want to see all tasks across team-mates. Turns out analysts only care about their own tasks, while managers care to have oversight of everything. I designed role-specific home-pages to display either my-tasks or filterable all-tasks.

After the first implementation of our tool, users complained that the workflow configuration was a black box, and they were unaware of what future steps will be, making it hard to plan their day. So we created a front-end diagram representation of the workflow instances, showing which tasks have been completed and what tasks may occur in the future.

The workflow task side-panel guides users from the task list into the right feature, letting them work in the main area while tracking progress in a persistent panel. Since many completed work outside task context, we added auto-association to mark tasks complete automatically, removing the need for manual check-off.

In testing workflow configuration, we learned customers often needed to carry data from one step to the next without re-entry. To solve this, we introduced variables, allowing users to auto-associate values across tasks — making complex reporting and inspection workflows far more seamless.

We found that even with front-loaded workflows, users often wanted the flexibility to initiate new tasks on the fly. The fastest, most natural way to support this was through a chat-style interface. Users also told us they preferred quick AI-generated summaries of completed workflows—so instead of digging through every step, they could instantly understand what had happened and what needed attention.
